Science-fiction has had a troublesome relationship with the Chinese government over the years, despite its popularity. At different times, government censors have cracked down on the genre on the pretense of it being bad for the spirit of the Chinese people. Things are somewhat better for Chinese sci-fi authors these days, and some of their best works are finding their way to the United States and the rest of the english-speaking world.
